Conditional Admission

Conditional Admission policy can be found in the . In graduate education, conditional admission means that you have been accepted into your program, but with certain stipulations you must meet before you can enroll or continue in the program. These may include:

  • Completing specific undergraduate courses prior to program coursework
  • Completing specific graduate courses or limiting credit hours in the first semester
  • Maintaining a minimum GPA during your first semester
  • Additional programmatic requirements

Once you meet these conditions, your admission becomes fully official. Until then, you may have limited access to some parts of the program. Your graduate student specialist will support you until you no longer have conditional status.

Academic Probation

A student can be placed on academic probation if their GPA falls below the required minimum for the program, if a required course grade is unmet, or the student fails to meet other programmatic academic requirements. Students on academic probation will work with their graduate student specialist in consultation with their faculty advisor or program director to develop a path forward in the program. More information can be found in the .

Retaking a Course

In graduate education, all grades are factored into your GPA—in some cases, you may retake a class, but it will not replace a low grade like you might be able to in undergraduate programs. This means:

  • No matter the grade, it stays on your transcript.
  • Even if you retake the course and earn a better grade, both grades will appear, and the original one still counts in your GPA.

It’s important to stay on top of your coursework and seek help early from your graduate student specialist if you're struggling.

Grade Appeals

Grade appeals are only done after the course is completed. Please contact your graduate student specialist for more information about the grade appeals process for your program.
