ɫߣߣ�ۺϵ��� Chillicothe, with support from National Grid Renewables, is offering a continuing education graduate credit course on renewable energy for middle and high school science teachers on Saturday, April 22, and Saturday, May 6, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The course will take place primarily in Bennett Hall at ɫߣߣ�ۺϵ��� Chillicothe and will include a site visit to one of the NGR solar farms in the area (on the second day of the course).

“We're designing the course to include hands-on activities that specifically demonstrate how scientific methods are applied to the study of energy systems,” said Michael Koop, assistant professor of instruction at ɫߣߣ�ۺϵ��� Chillicothe. “We'll also be emphasizing how these activities can be modified for use in teachers’ classrooms for students of various ages. The general goal of the course is to introduce topics related to energy production with a particular focus on renewable/sustainable energy technologies and current energy challenges.”

This workshop, offered through the Patton College of Education, is designed to offer graduate credit for professional development workshops that serve as continuing education for practicing professionals in education and other human services.

The course cannot be used towards any ɫߣߣ�ۺϵ��� degree requirements. There are no prerequisites but a basic understanding of algebra will be beneficial. Participants will pay a $35 application fee and can earn one graduate credit at a cost of $161 (in-state rate) or $180 (out-of-state rate). All materials required for in-class activities will be provided. Access to the internet and a smartphone device will be beneficial for outside-of-class work.
